About the Salmo Valley Trail Society
Our mission is to create, enhance, and preserve great trail experiences for all walks of life.
The purpose of the Salmo Valley Trail Society, as defined in our constitution is:
- To develop, maintain and promote recreational trails and trail networks in and around the communities of Salmo and Ymir for non-motorized activities including walking, hiking, biking, equestrian, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
- To develop, maintain and promote facilities that support learning and progression for non-motorized activities including walking, hiking, biking, equestrian, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
- To work cooperatively with other trail user groups to support mutual trail opportunities where compatible and manage user conflicts where they arise.
We live in such an amazing valley full of potential to get out and explore nature at its finest. Healthy lifestyles are worth promoting and we believe that by joining our society and supporting us you will be supporting health and wellness for many, for years to come. As well as the health benefits, it will provide a sense of community which is a bonus.
With the development of recreational trails the Salmo Valley is becoming a recreational trail destination, bringing in tourism revenue and helping support a healthy economy.
Successful trail systems involve collaboration between land managers, volunteer groups, and other local stakeholders, such as businesses, private landowners, environmental organizations and community leaders. Our approach to advocacy and organizing will be based on building coalitions amongst players like these.
As a society we wish to encourage volunteer trail-work participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, low impact mountain bike riding, and innovative trail management solutions.
