Trail Construction Manager

The Salmo Valley Trail Society is seeking a Trail Construction Manager to lead our paid trail building crew for the 2017 trail building season. The ideal candidate will have experience in hand building multi-use trails, project management, and leadership. This person will manage a crew of 3-5 people as they work to complete projects assigned by the SVTS board of directors.

They will be responsible for all of the day to day requirements needed for the crew to safely and effectively build high quality hiking and multi-use trails in and around the Salmo valley. This will include tasks such as communicating with the SVTS board of directors on project progress; maintaining a safe working environment; managing crew time over the season to achieve project targets; managing tools and equipment; arranging for project materials; and ensuring trails are built to meet appropriate trail standards. Some of the Manager’s time will also be spent working with the crew on trail construction.

This is a seasonal position consisting of primarily full time work (up to 40 hours a week) for approximately 26 weeks, with a wage of up to $25/hr commensurate with experience. Mileage rates will be provided for personal vehicle use to access project sites.

Lead Trail Builders

The Salmo Valley Trail Society is seeking Lead Trail Builders to be part of our paid trail crew for the 2017 trail building season. This person will work under the direction of the Trail Construction Manager on a crew of 3-5 people to build high quality hiking and multi-use trails in and around the Salmo valley.

They will assist the Trail Construction Manager in the day to day requirements of operating the trail crew, but will spend most of their time on the construction of hand built trails. The ideal candidate for this position will be in excellent physical condition; have previous experience hand building trails; first aid training; some Chainsaw safety training; and previous experience working in remote wilderness locations.

This is a seasonal position consisting of primarily full time work (up to 40 hours a week) for approximately 24 weeks, with a wage of $17/hr. Mileage rates will be provided for personal vehicle use to access project sites.

Trail Builders

The ideal candidates will be in good physical condition; have some previous trail building experience; first aid training; and some previous experience working in wilderness locations.

This is a seasonal position consisting of primarily full time work (up to 40 hours a week) for approximately 16 weeks, with a wage of $14/hr. Mileage rates are available for personal vehicle use to access project sites.
